She rushed to open the box. Beneath layers of carefully wrapped paper was a pair of shoes. Minimalist design, elegantly woven white laces traversing across, with heels about the same size as her shoes.

“Oh my God! How did you?” Caroline exclaimed. They were likely one of the prettiest pairs she had ever seen.

“I figured you needed something to wear given the mishap… It was a practical consideration…”

“Thank you. So thoughtful of you. Practical and perfect.” she said sliding toward him and draping her arms around him.

Even if Jack might want to say something, Caroline wasn’t about to let him. If it weren’t for the dress, she might have leaped and landed on his thighs. But for that moment, revisiting their first kiss was the smallest act that meant so much. When she wanted to quicken, he slowed their pace. Slowly and methodically exploring all the crevices of her lips. Slow and steady.

Caroline was scared to say anything. She feared she might ruin the moment. Closing her eyes and letting him do as he pleased. Could she have found a more trustworthy crush? As she melted into his embrace, she wasn’t prepared for what would come next. She was whisked from the couch and held firmly in his arms as he carried her toward the bedroom.
