He stirs, slightly pressing his lips to the back of my neck. “Morning,” he mutters as I roll over to face him.

His gaze is hooded, sleepy yet filled with lust as I press a kiss into his chest. His arms snake around me, tucking me closer to his side as he rolls to his back.

“What time is it?” he asks, his voice raspy from sleep.

“Seven thirty.”

“Shit. I gotta get going to practice. Miller will kill me if I show up late,” he says, placing a kiss on the top of my head before moving out of bed to throw on last night’s clothes. “What are your plans for later?”

I stifle a yawn as I stretch my arms overhead, the sheets falling down my body slightly to reveal my breasts. I laugh slightly at the low curse that leaves Channing’s lips.

“Nothing much. Just work. You know very mundane, normal people things,” I say, crawling to the end of the bed. “Why? What are your plans for the day?”

He flashes me that gorgeous megawatt smile before placing a chaste kiss on my lips. “Practice. Lunch with Brooks, then dinner with this insanely hot woman who I just spent an amazing night with.”

“Is that your way of asking me to dinner?”

“Did it work?”

“I’ll see you tonight.”

I walked into the office a little while later with a content smile on my face. Last night didn’t really go as planned. Channing still hasn’t told me why he ghosted me and was acting so strange, but I trust him. Yeah, I know. Trust with me right now might be on the thin side, but I have to believe he’ll tell me why like he said he would when he can.

Logging onto the computer, I pull up today’s schedule. It’s not very busy for the beginning of the season like I’d expect, but that can always change. So, for now, I’ll keep myself busy by filing and not checking my phone incessantly for messages from Channing.

“Someone’s chipper this morning,” Hayley says, walking over to my desk. “And not at all distracted.”

She leans her hip against my desk, eyeing me suspiciously as I put my phone face down on the desk. “I’m not distracted, but yes, I am in a fantastic mood this morning.”

“I take it dinner went well then?”

“You could say that.” I smirk as I busy myself with some scheduling conflicts for next week.

“So, tell me. Did he absolutely sweep you off your feet?” she says, in a teasing tone.

He definitely swept me into my bedroom, but I still have so many unanswered questions. Like why he couldn’t just tell me what was going on. I could help him. I could be his rock like he was mine, if he just opens up.

I smile at her like what happened last night was for me and me only. Just as I go to change the conversation, my phone pings with a notification followed by it flashing with Brooks’ number.

“Uh, why is your boyfriend calling me?” I look at Hayley before reluctantly answering.

“Brooks?”

“Are you okay?” He sounds like he’s ready to blow a gasket.

My brows furrow because I thought we already established I would be. “Why wouldn’t I be? Channing and I are good.”

“So, then he told you, and you’re not at all bothered and fuming by the article and podcast that just came out.”
