Epilogue
Diane
1 year later
The ocean water lapped up on the beach, and the shrieking gulls above made Adir laugh, waving his arms at their flight. In the carriage, Indira slept on, and in Diane's arms, Mati cooed with delight.
"This is amazing," she said to Samyar, who held Adir in the crook of his arm as if he had been handling babies all his life.
"It is. My family spent so many summers here while I was growing up. I am relieved that my own children will have the opportunity to do so as well."
"They're going to run on these sands and play in the water," Diane mused, looking over the gorgeous beach. The sun was just getting up to its zenith, and the light was pure in a way that took her breath away.
"They'll run and play all over the world," Samyar said with pride. "It is the world we are giving them."
It was. The dark times were behind them now, and things were going well enough for Samyar to take a full two months away from the palace; nowhere to go and nothing to do but to be with his family. Diane couldn't think of a better thing to do after the pain of the year before.
"I want to give them everything," she said softly, dropping a gentle kiss on Mati's downy head. "I only hope that I'm going to be enough."
"You are more than enough," Samyar promised, leaning over the babies in their arms to kiss her lightly on the mouth.
"Am I?" she asked. She liked to hear it after all the years without.
Samyar's smile was brilliant.
"My darling, you are everything."
