Page 32 of Love in Fine Print
There was a flicker in her eyes that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I wasn’t sure if I’d said the wrong thing or not. She looked… sad.
I was about to ask her what I’d said, when she clipped. “Fine. I’ll fill out the profile.”
With that, she bent down, gave Dolly a kiss on the head, and left.
I sat back down in my chair, unsure of exactly what had changed her mind. If I had to guess, it was that she felt sorry for me, which wasn’t great for my ego, but beggars couldn’t be choosers. Whatever the reason, I’d gotten a second chance at finding Olivia Bradshaw a match, and I knew I better not fuck it up. Even if it killed me thinking of her with another man.

OLIVIA
As I steppedout of my SUV, I tried to call Trevor.Again. This time, he picked up.
“Hello, beautiful.” I could hear from the grogginess in his voice that he’d been asleep.
It was almost eleven. Half the day was gone. But that wasn’t the point.
“Someone who holds the door open for me and then slaps my ass,” I repeated what he’d written in my bio.
“Tell me youdon’twant that.”
I opened my mouth to say I didn’t, but nothing came out. “You can’t write that. It gives the wrong impression.”
“Impression, shmession. Lovely, you do not have time to waste. I was trying to ensure that you didn’t get matched with a beta. You need alpha energy all the way.”
At the mention of alpha energy, Ben’s face popped into my head. He definitely had alpha energy. Even just now in his office when he was basically saying he was failing, he still had an air of capableness around him. If you googled ‘alpha energy’ I was sure his picture would come up.
I had thought more about him in the past week than I’d ever thought about any man ever. That was sad. Pathetic, really, considering he was actively trying to set me up with someone else. Especially since it was clear he needed a relationship almost as badly as I did.
Which begged the question, why was he single? How was a man like that not locked down? He was thirty-five and from the tiny bit of internet stalking aka due diligence I’d done, he hadn’t had any serious relationships. At least nothing long-term. How was that possible?
“I’m guessing things didn’t go well with Darius.” Trevor’s voice was strained as if he was stretching.
“No. He was a pig. Alpha energy and pig energy are two very different things.”
“Fine. I’ll call Ben and?—”
“I took care of it.”
“Olivia, you cannotlet one bad date?—”
“I’m not. I told him he could try again. I already filled out my own profile. Correctly, this time.”
The line went silent, I glanced down to see if the call had dropped. It hadn’t.
I put it back up to my ear, “Trevor?”
“Sorry, I was just busy picking my jaw up off the floor.”
“Ha ha,” I said as I reached Sweet Temptations bakery. “I have to go.”
“Are you going into the office today?”
Sometimes I worked from home on weekends, and sometimes I went in. Since Ben had tainted my home, and I kept subconsciously wishing he’d show up on my doorstep again, I figured the office was a better bet.
“I’m coming in. But first, I’m going to see Bailey.”
“Oh, if you’re going to see Bay Bay, grab me a Sadie special,” Trevor instructed.
