“Would you like to read it, Maighstir?” I offered him the device, well used to sharing everything with the man.
“No, nighean bheag.” He offered me a sympathetic smile. “I trust you. Send your message. You can tell me about it later.”
“Thank you.” Gratitude swelled in my chest at the gesture. Rasmie must have implicit faith in me if he didn’t want to check what I had included, and I was thankful for the vote of confidence. He was my life now—him and the little one inside me—and knowing he was on my side made all the difference.
I reread the message quickly before hitting send. Heart hammering, I watched it disappear into the ether, my one tiny window to the outside world closing as fast as it had opened.
