I backed away, leaving the room. That was beneath me. Shouldn’t have said that.

Maguire appeared, pulling on his clothes. “Shouldn’t have fallen asleep like that. If anyone was checking to see if I was at my post—”

“They haven’t thus far,” I said.

He nodded with a shrug.

“If you’re fucking her, you’re keeping me from biting her, right? Still doing your job.”

“I’m not sure if the Queen would see it that way,” he said, taking his phone out of his pocket. “Shit,” he said.

“What?” I said.

“Speaking of the Queen, she wants to see me after I get off duty, so basically now.”

“Go take a shower,” I said.

“Yeah?” he said.

“You want to go in there smelling like sex and Eleri?”

“No,” he said, ducking back into Eleri’s bedroom.

I followed him, glancing at Eleri, who was still fast asleep. “The Queen wants to see us, too.”

“Us, as in, who?”

“Me and Eleri,” I said. “I guess it’s about that dress.”

“You don’t think she knows about Eleri escaping with Sinclair, then?” he said.

“Well, the security detail didn’t know until we told them,” I said. “So, unless they decided to announce that to the Queen—”

“Which they probably wouldn’t have,” he said. “And we were all back here and safe, so it didn’t matter.”

“Exactly,” I said.

“I guess don’t tell the Queen?”

“Nothing to tell,” I said. “I’ll tell her we’re going to be a pack. I’ll tell her everything when I see her.”

He nodded slowly. He started into the bathroom. Then he paused. “Hey, uh, seriously? Your property? After you basically ordered me to—”

“I don’t know why I said that.” I shoved my hands in my pockets. “I’ve just never been able to fuck her alone, you know.”

“I do know,” he said. “And we both wanted you here, and you—”

“Go take a shower,” I said, shaking my head at him.

He sighed and disappeared into the bathroom.

I heard the water come on.

Eleri stirred on the bed. She stretched and sighed and looked cute as all hell. She opened her eyes, noticed me, and smiled. “Devlin, you’re here.”

“Morning, sweetling,” I said.

She beamed, holding out both of her hands and beckoning me.
