I whimpered as I slowly turned. My body caught fire again as each bone snapped and realigned until I was finally standing on all four paws. I stretched forward and then back before shaking out my coat.

If Lincoln weren’t unconscious, I would go for a run to stretch out, but right now, I just wanted to check in on him.

The shift back was smoother. I stood up on my legs and shifted my feet, letting out a silent thanks when there was no more pain.

Willa handed me my undergarments. “You look a lot better.”

I scrunched up my nose as I pulled my underwear on. “How bad was it?”

She made a face that made me laugh.

“That bad, huh?” A thought occurred to me as I pulled my pants back on.

I sat down next to her as I grabbed my shirt and darted my eyes around, making sure we were alone.

I swallowed as I pulled my shirt over my head. “You haven’t told anyone about Sawyer, right?”

Willa frowned and shook her head. “No. Of course not.”

“Not even Jacob or Ian?” I held my breath.

Willa put her hand over top mine. “You told me not to.”

I reached over and hugged her. “Thank you. Please don’t mention it to anyone. Someone told Mikey where to find Lincoln and me. I don’t know who it was.”

I wasn’t sure my dad did, either. That was probably what he was talking to my mom about.

Willa squeezed me back. “I won’t. Promise.”

I pulled back. “I need to go check on Lincoln.”

Willa waved me on. “You go. I’m going to sit here for a few. Jacob will be finishing patrol soon. This is where I usually meet him.”

I gave Willa one last squeeze and then bounded toward the house. I raced across the lawn and then took the steps two at a time until I made it to my room. My mom was sitting on the bed next to Lincoln.

He was tucked beneath the covers, and she’d set up IV fluids for him. Dad was right behind her, watching. They both looked up when I closed the door.

“How is he?” I asked before either of them could say anything.

My mom sighed and adjusted the IV drip. “Not good. The fact he is still alive is promising.”

My heart plummeted, and I covered my mouth with my hand.

She shared a look with my father before she stood up and wrapped her arm around me. “It’s not great. He’s severely dehydrated, which I wish was the worst of it. Several ribs are broken, his right arm, and…” She looked away from me and licked her lips as she hesitated, only continuing when my dad nodded. “I think a few vertebrae might have broken as well, and the possibility of internal bleeding is high. He has swelling in his abdomen and bruising too.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but it didn’t stop the tears from sliding down.

My mom pulled me into a hug and rubbed her hand up and down my back. “I’ve ordered for more equipment so we can get proper X-rays and an ultrasound. It should be here in the next day. If he wakes up, I want him to shift. If not, we will see what’s going on. He might need surgery.”

My bottom lip trembled. “How long can it wait?”

My dad pinched the bridge of his nose. “I plan to make a supply run this evening to get more medical supplies. I’ll see what else I can pick up.”

My mother shuddered in my embrace. “David, no!”

“Kathleen, we’re going to need the supplies. Pack Wolf Blood will be back sooner than later. I don’t want to lose men because we don’t have the medical equipment we need. Besides, he got hurt protecting our baby. I’m going to do what I can to save his life.”

I rubbed my palms against my eyes. “Do we know who told Mikey where we’d be?”
