Leaning up on my tiptoes, I kissed him. “I should probably stay here. Gotta get all pretty.”

“You’re always pretty,” he murmured against my lips.

It was a wave of love and touch as they passed, and by the time they got out the front door and slipped by the flower carriers, I was pink with it.

Ocean just stared. “Wow.”

“I know.”

She looked away too quickly and handed me one of the bags. “Will you take these to the bridal suite? They’re all labeled.”

“Sure.” I waited, seeing if I should check on her, but the way she dove back into the organization told me no. Later, I’d get it out of her.

The bridal suite was already chaos. Clothes were everywhere, and about a hundred different bags and purses, hair tools, and make-up kits. Glowing stations like the one Rin had set up in my closet.

Ellie laughed and joked with the rest of her bridesmaids, and it was easy to fall into the camaraderie of the day. I felt so much better, and I could tell Ellie did too. This was the wedding day she was always meant to have.

A couple hours later, with makeup and hair done, dress in place, and all the chaos significantly lessened, I was closest to the door when someone knocked. Geoffrey stood there. “Hi.”

“There’s someone here, Miss Allen. And I’m not sure they should be.”

“For the love of god, tell me Beau isn’t trying to come to the wedding.”

“No,” Geoffrey said. “He’s not here. But his fiancée is.”

Ellie frowned. “Why? She can’t think she’s still invited.”

“No, miss. She says she doesn’t want to come to the ceremony.” Then his eyes fixed on me. “She wants to talk to you.”

ISOLDE

“No fucking way,” Ellie said.

I looked at Geoffrey. “Does she seem angry?”

“No, miss. It looks like she’s been crying. Frankly, it’s the most subdued I’ve seen her.”

“Iz—”

Looking back at my sister, I shrugged. “You know what he can do, El. If she wants to talk, I’ll give her one more chance. Don’t worry, I’m not going to let her stay.”

She looked unsure, but I followed Geoffrey out of the suite. “I put her in one of the sitting rooms so she was out of the way while the guests arrive.”

“Thank you, Geoffrey.”

He opened the door, and sure enough, Angela stood there. In a t-shirt and jeans, she definitely wasn’t planning on coming to the wedding, which was a point in her favor. “Angela.”

“Hi.” She shifted her weight from foot to foot, clearly nervous. “I know I shouldn’t be here, but I didn’t have your phone number, and I wasn’t going to ask Beau for it, so I needed to try.”

“Try what?”

“To apologize. I’ve been a royal cunt to you, and it was because of all the things Beau said about you. Guess we were both taken in by versions of him that weren’t real.”

I was pretty sure my eyebrows had gone to visit heaven the way they were hiding in my hairline. Those were the last words I ever expected out of her mouth. “Oh. Wow.”
